The total brewing time of only 30 seconds results in exceptionally smooth flavor. Tasters ranging from professional cuppers and author Kenneth Davids, to coffee aficionados all praise the smooth, rich flavor. Smoothest Using the ideal water temperature and gentle air pressure brewing yields rich flavor with lower acidity and without bitterness. Richest Total immersion brewing results in uniform extraction of the ultimate in full coffee flavor. Mixing substrate - Toscanini's coffee amendment

Mixing substrate - Toscanini's coffee amendment

See that in the bottom of the bag?

it's from a 5 gallon bucket of coffee grounds from Toscanini's in Cambridge.

This stuff seems to be working well as a mix-in substrate. I'm a bit concerned about the mold that grows on it. One observation I've made that may be useful is that the espresso seems more homogenous. Also, perhaps because they are stem pasturized as opposed to drip percolated, they seem to have less mold on them. they may also be pressed drier. In addition, I am uncertain about the coffee filters and how they will interact with the fungi. Furthermore, I'm not sure about the filters themselves and what they're made of. If the material is bleached, for example, that's something I think I would prefer to leave out of my cultivation process.

I consequently took two steps:
1) Called the company who makes the filters we use at home. I have yet to get a satisfactorily thorough response - only that they are 'safe for composing', and I felt that was more of a 'go away' answer than a well-informed one.
2) I have asked Toscanini's to set aside only their espresso waste.

The Fir-Tree

The Fir-Tree

"The Fir Tree" by Hans Christian Andersen, published originally in 1845, follows the life of a young fir tree living in the woods (of all places). Compared to the other trees around him, he feels small, spindly and short, and he constantly utters complaint to any and all woodland creatures within ear shot. Most pointedly, he wonders "when will he truly be alive?" When he sees humans cut down some beautiful trees nearby and then drag them across the snow, he asks the swallows, "Where are they going?" In answer they tell him of all Christmas's splendor and beauty of which those lucky trees will soon be a part. Yet when the time comes for our little fir tree to have his turn, he's taught an unexpected and irreversible lesson.
No one is better suited to adapt this sweet and sorrowful tale than Lilli Carre. Creator of The Tales of Woodland Pete and The Lagoon, her sensibility will graft beautifully over the antiquated yet quirky tale by the great master Hans Christian Andersen.

Fram

Fram

A visit to the Fram museum . Basically a building built around a ship . By modern standards the ship is quite small but within its building it appears gigantic.
Famous for being Roald Amundsons ship on his conquest over Scott in being the first explorers to reach the South Pole on the 14th December 1911. It was 35 days before Scott found the Norwegian flag at the South Pole . Scott and his party died on thier return journey .
The Fram is preserved here for all to see. Its a shame we could not do the same for the Terra Nova .
Fram was also used prior to Amundsons adventures by two other notable Norwegian explorers (though not quite so famous) Sverdrup and Nansen ,for whom the ship was initially designed and built .

A Green 'Art Legacy' Flickr Gun

A Green 'Art Legacy' Flickr Gun

A Flickr Classique... Hao Tuamotu is a 100 miles long swimming pool... On the horizon the South Pacific is wavy, raging furiously, and is full of Sharks. But inside you are safe! In this green pool you will be far from the large squales,... Ahhh but where is the Casino?
There is none with only 77 inhabitants!

No color correct as usual in my work. Yes it's a leaf floating on water :) enjoy!

How did I manage to get these colors?
1/ And in the begining there was Light.... the tropical light is way better than in Paris or New York from 6500 we go up to 10 000 Kelvins in Tahiti.
2/ When you move out in the Tuamotu Archipelago there is even more light because of three factors - no mountain to eat the light - the reflection at the surface of the lagoon - and last but not least, the white sand refracts the sun back from under. So you can get an incredible 12000 Kelvins of light temp on an attol.
3/ I always use a german tripod even with water at the chest
4/ I set my plastic camera to a very dynamic and contrasty Fujichrome setting
5/ These shots are white balanced manually.
6/ I have a very good Pola filter.

Voila..... ciao.... see you around!

Typical Hawaiian Sunset

Typical Hawaiian Sunset

So I've been getting kind of bored of processing all these photos from Cali and I have a ton of them left. I'm all about changing it up and since I haven't done a beach sunset vertorama in literally months, I felt it was time to hit that up. The weather looked just right for a stunning light show but I had no idea the treat I was in for. This was taken on the north shore at Waimea Beach. Used f22 and an ND8 filter on the lower half to get the fluid water movement. And used f11 with out the ND8 filter on sky to get all my exposures with as little cloud movement as possible.

All digital blending was used in this photo. Sky was blended from 4 exposures and the sand / water is a blend of 5 exposures. Curves, contrast, saturation, highlight / dodge, unsharp mask, noise ninja.
