Aerobie AeroPress Coffee and Espresso - w/zippered nylon tote bag

The AEROPRESS is an entirely new way to make coffee. Water and grounds are mixed together for ten seconds. Then gentle air pressure pushes the mix through a micro-filter in 20 seconds. The total brewing time of only 30 seconds results in exceptionally smooth flavor. Tasters ranging from professional cuppers and author Kenneth Davids, to coffee aficionados all praise the smooth, rich flavor. Smoothest Using the ideal water temperature and gentle air pressure brewing yields rich flavor with lower acidity and without bitterness. Richest Total immersion brewing results in uniform extraction of the ultimate in full coffee flavor. Other coffee makers drip hot water on bed of grounds, over extracting at the center and under extracting at the edge. Purest Micro filtered for grit free coffee ? unlike other press-type coffee makers. Fastest One minute from start to enjoy. The actual press time takes only 20 seconds. Makes 1 to 4 cups (1 or 2 mugs) of coffee or espresso Made in U.S.A. Replacement AeroPress filters available Worldwide patents pending

Mixing substrate - Toscanini's coffee amendment

Mixing substrate - Toscanini's coffee amendment

See that in the bottom of the bag?

it's from a 5 gallon bucket of coffee grounds from Toscanini's in Cambridge.

This stuff seems to be working well as a mix-in substrate. I'm a bit concerned about the mold that grows on it. One observation I've made that may be useful is that the espresso seems more homogenous. Also, perhaps because they are stem pasturized as opposed to drip percolated, they seem to have less mold on them. they may also be pressed drier. In addition, I am uncertain about the coffee filters and how they will interact with the fungi. Furthermore, I'm not sure about the filters themselves and what they're made of. If the material is bleached, for example, that's something I think I would prefer to leave out of my cultivation process.

I consequently took two steps:
1) Called the company who makes the filters we use at home. I have yet to get a satisfactorily thorough response - only that they are 'safe for composing', and I felt that was more of a 'go away' answer than a well-informed one.
2) I have asked Toscanini's to set aside only their espresso waste.

Measure 2 3/8 from bottom, draw a line and cut across both front and back.

You can make them thinner if you'd like or larger for larger tea cups.

    water filter
  • a filter to remove impurities from the water supply

  • A water filter removes impurities from water by means of a fine physical barrier, a chemical process or a biological process. Filters cleanse water to various extents for irrigation, drinking water, aquariums, and swimming pools.

  • (Water Filters) A water filter is required to remove parasite contamination in big city municipal water supplies, and growing concerns about well water contamination in rural areas. It does away with the inconvenience and expense of purchasing bottled water.

A Green 'Art Legacy' Flickr Gun

A Green 'Art Legacy' Flickr Gun

A Flickr Classique... Hao Tuamotu is a 100 miles long swimming pool... On the horizon the South Pacific is wavy, raging furiously, and is full of Sharks. But inside you are safe! In this green pool you will be far from the large squales,... Ahhh but where is the Casino?
There is none with only 77 inhabitants!

No color correct as usual in my work. Yes it's a leaf floating on water :) enjoy!

How did I manage to get these colors?
1/ And in the begining there was Light.... the tropical light is way better than in Paris or New York from 6500 we go up to 10 000 Kelvins in Tahiti.
2/ When you move out in the Tuamotu Archipelago there is even more light because of three factors - no mountain to eat the light - the reflection at the surface of the lagoon - and last but not least, the white sand refracts the sun back from under. So you can get an incredible 12000 Kelvins of light temp on an attol.
3/ I always use a german tripod even with water at the chest
4/ I set my plastic camera to a very dynamic and contrasty Fujichrome setting
5/ These shots are white balanced manually.
6/ I have a very good Pola filter.

Voila..... ciao.... see you around!

Typical Hawaiian Sunset

Typical Hawaiian Sunset

So I've been getting kind of bored of processing all these photos from Cali and I have a ton of them left. I'm all about changing it up and since I haven't done a beach sunset vertorama in literally months, I felt it was time to hit that up. The weather looked just right for a stunning light show but I had no idea the treat I was in for. This was taken on the north shore at Waimea Beach. Used f22 and an ND8 filter on the lower half to get the fluid water movement. And used f11 with out the ND8 filter on sky to get all my exposures with as little cloud movement as possible.

All digital blending was used in this photo. Sky was blended from 4 exposures and the sand / water is a blend of 5 exposures. Curves, contrast, saturation, highlight / dodge, unsharp mask, noise ninja.

  • Email filtering is the processing of e-mail to organize it according to specified criteria. Most often this refers to the automatic processing of incoming messages, but the term also applies to the intervention of human intelligence in addition to anti-spam techniques, and to outgoing emails as

How to Solve It: Modern Heuristics

How to Solve It: Modern Heuristics

This book is the only source that provides comprehensive, current, and correct information on problem solving using modern heuristics. It covers classic methods of optimization, including dynamic programming, the simplex method, and gradient techniques, as well as recent innovations such as simulated annealing, tabu search, and evolutionary computation. Integrated into the discourse is a series of problems and puzzles to challenge the reader. The book is written in a lively, engaging style and is intended for students and practitioners alike. Anyone who reads and understands the material in the book will be armed with the most powerful problem solving tools currently known.
This second edition contains two new chapters, one on coevolutionary systems and one on multicriterial decision-making. Also some new puzzles are added and various subchapters are revised.

Heuristic Analysis

Heuristic Analysis

We created a list of heuristics and applied a severity rating scale. We conducted the analysis, filled out the checklist, and came back together as a group to discuss the results. In describing heuristic analysis, Jakob Nielsen noted that a single evaluator will fall short of catching the majority of usability issues during a heuristic evaluation. This was confirmed when each group member brought up problems that the others had missed.

Heuristic Research: Design, Methodology, and Applications

Well-organized and well-referenced, this book gives a clear presentation of heuristic methodology as a systematic form of qualitative research. Investigators of human experiences will find this book invaluable as a research guide. The author illustrates how heuristic concepts and processes form components of the research design and become the basis for a methodology. There is a clear explanation of how heuristic inquiry works in practice and the actual process of conducting a human science investigation is described in detail.
